Henry Bacon was the Architect of this memorial. He made like a Greek Parthenon. The Congress Autherized the building in 1911. The lincoln Memorial was finished in 1922 in honor of Abraham Lincoln. It has the Gettysburg Address engraved on the south side of the memorial. Above it is a painting of an angel  freeing a slave by Jules Guerin. He also painted the unity of the North and the South on the north wall. Above it is Lincolns second speech. There are 36 columns represing each state in the Union at the time when Abe died. Those states are listed in the space above the columns. The 48 states in the Union when the Memorial was built are listed above them. Alaska and Hawaii are listed with a plaque on the front steps. The statue of him seated in the center of the memorial stands 19 feet tall!

The Lincoln Memorial along with the other Monuments and Memorials in the National Mall are open from 8:00 am to midnight every day except Christmas. It is located at 900 Ohio Drive at the West side of the National mall in Washington D.C.
